Science fiction glamorizes artificial intelligence and paints a picture of humanoid robots living with us.
Back in the 1990s, The banks of Ame
rica, faced huge unemployment after they started installing automated teller machines. But actually, the cost savings just encouraged the parent banks to open new branches, which led to the employment actually going up!
In a 2017 report, PwC found that despite fears, the number of new jobs created due to automation will be roughly equal to the number lost.
Thus, instead of getting frightened about the changes, we should focus on AI-driven skills. Soft skills are a must for the AI age. Critical thinking helps decipher information given by algorithms and bots. We
should teach the progeny something unique so that a machine cannot catch up with them: Creative thinking, teamwork, empathy, and communication. Who knows if the AI of tomorrow could be able to write novels, compose music, etc. So, humans or machines? The answer is both.
